Following on the release by Eileses Capital of April 29th, Warwick Wine Estate is pleased to announce that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Uitkyk Wine Farm from Distell.
The Warwick team have created and will implement a ten-year strategy to build on its existing stable of Bordeaux-centric brands including Trilogy, Cabernet Franc, Blue Lady Cabernet, Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc and The First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2015 Warwick Trilogy becomes Cabernet Franc dominant and the 2015 Warwick Three Cape Ladies will be re-released as a Bordeaux Blend – both in October 2018.
The Uitkyk acquisition significantly increases Warwick’s prime Simonsberg, Stellenbosch terroir footprint to over 700 hectares and is strategic in implementing the ten-year strategy. A significant long-term winery upgrade and vineyard planting program will commence soonest. Warwick plans to build upon this initial acquisition, ensuring access to the best fruit and production capacity possible.
The Warwick and Uitkyk management teams remain actively engaged and will be critical to the success of this ambitious venture. The Ratcliffe family will remain engaged in the strategic and marketing functions in the business with Michael Ratcliffe playing a strategic leadership role as Director on the Warwick board alongside Malcolm Rutherford who continues in his role as Chairman. Californian Investment firm Eileses Capital will be represented on the board by Kishore Bopardikar and Charles Marston. Norma Ratcliffe will always be ‘The First Lady’.
Uitkyk, a renowned and historical South African winery in the Stellenbosch appellation was founded in 1712 and has a rich history of producing some of South Africa’s greatest wines and brandies. Uitkyk is a large property of 590 hectares situated on the decomposed granite slopes of the Simonsberg mountain in close proximity to great winery names like Warwick, Kanonkop, Rustenberg, Delheim, Le Bonheur, Muratie, Glenelly, Lievland and Tokara.
Warwick’s history dates back to 1771 when the original winery was constructed. Warwick was acquired by the Ratcliffe family in 1964. Warwick Wine Estate produces some of Stellenbosch’s most awarded estate grown wines. Its Trilogy Bordeaux blend, Cabernet Franc & Three Cape Ladies are recognized among South Africa’s best loved red wines.
Eileses Capital was founded in 2016 by Kishore Bopardikar and Charles Marston. The founders have worked together since 1991. With extensive experience in the technology space, the company’s investments range across multiple sectors including healthcare, the food industry, and core technology.
